November 22, 2014, 01:36:30 pm Luna L: Oh that's not even half as bad as when Joad called him racist.
Ok background on Joad is he's actually pretty cool, he just like pissing people off,  kind of like a class clown that doesn't ever stop pushing people's buttons.
So he went too far with the racist thing, and he got a 24 hour ban for it.
But for iron man, that wasn't enough. He wanted Joad banned forever, and he felt like the mods didn't care about what he had to say, so he got super mad and I tried convincing him to stay, because I'm nice and I told him Joad always likes to mess around, and he got punished for it etc, but he was like the mods don't respect me, this is unfair, I'm not wanted blah blah blah an he left.
It was a bit overdramatic.

November 10, 2014, 08:16:01 pm Luna L: I think it just evolved and someone brought up Harry Potter and iron man, I really hate that kid, thought he could just shut me down at any point in the debate by saying "well JK says he's a hero, good thing I agree"
And I was like wow you jerk, way to be an ****.
So anyway, don't debate him

Yeah, being half blood would be best; you kind of get the best of both worlds

A pure-blood preferrably, but I seriously don't mind being muggle-born.for one,I think that aren't as snotty or aren't piled up with ego and pride. They, are also smarter than most wizards, and have a different perspective of the world. They are nicer, and they probably are more useful. But the reason I choose being pure-blood is because of the goals and determination of Draco and Severus :-* ;) :D

And they have a easier life anyways :-\

Oh yeah,  I won't deny he's an antagonist.  That is undeniable as far as I'm concerned.

New question: would you rather be pureblood or muggleborn?

I see were you are coming from, however, is it not true that from the very beginning Draco did everything he could to hurt Harry, Ron, and Hermione and all their enterprises. I would say that even though he was not completely evil, he still deserves the title of antagonist.

Well this is all objective. It's certainly undeniable that he cannot be called a good guy. But I still don't believe he was a bad guy as you suggest. He did work for Voldemort, that's unquestionable,  however my interpretation of this was that he didn't do so willingly.  He was urged to because of the mistakes his father made in the Department f Mysteries, not, I believe,  because he genuinely believed in the cause. I don't think he set out to hurt anyone (besides Dumbledore) but even then he really couldn't bring himself to it in the end.
I take this sign of a guilty conscience to suggest that he isn't a bad guy, or a major antagonist,  more of a weak one. I don't believe he falls under either category,  to me he was more of a bystander caught in the middle of his parents' wishes and his own internal thoughts.
However, I understand the point you make. Draco did bad things, and I get that you see this as making him undoubtedly a bad guy. Personally,  I think otherwise, but that is just my opinion on the matter.
Interesting debate nonetheless?

Yeah it does, he was indirectly responsible for many deaths when he let the death eaters into hogwarts. Remember Draco chose to become a death eater, he is arrogant and extremely supportive of the dark arts. Like I said before, he CHOSE to fight for Voldermort, one little action in support of Harry as a consequence of his conscience isn't going to change that he is a bad guy.

I still wouldn't call him an antagonist/bad giy though.
He refused to tell Bellatrix who Harry was when they were captured and in Malfoy Manor, despite knowng full well who he was. He never properly physically attacked Harry throughout the series despite his inclination towards disliking him. He may have worked briefly foe the Dark Lord,  however he did so very unwillingly. Does all this really add up to him being under the "bad" category?

This isn't actually that difficult.
Draco was an antagonist throughout the entire series, JK obviously meant for him to be a bad guy. He was a bad guy, if a slightly unwilling bad guy, we see a slight change in him at the very end of the series. But it was NEVER enough to call him a "good guy". From book one he was always the guy who tried to thwart harry's plans, and was the mean bully also don't forget the minor detail that he supported a murderous fiend, and did everything in his power to assist a dark lord who stood for everything evil.

I agree. At first I think Draco was jealous of Harry because here he was, Mr. Famous and Popular, and this made him mad because he wanted to be top. I think I read on Pottermore that Lucius pressured Draco into trying to make friends with Harry at furst, which explains how he acts when they properly meet at school and Draco offers him friendship. After that I think he felt burnt and angered by Harry's 'rejection', and this is where his hate-campaign began.

As for later, I think he felt he had to do as Voldemort said because his father could get hurt. I don't think he ever wanted to do as he did, so no, I don't think he was a bad guy personally. More a conflicted anti-hero.

Thats a hard one for most people, and thats a good topic.Because, many people have different opinions about Draco. For me,its easy.I love Draco to the point where its impossible. He is so cool. And his idiotic actions are sooo Dracoish. And he is also really sweet. He bought time for harry many times, and he also saved his life.He denies seeing Harry,as Harry Potter. He also doesn't have the complete urge for wickedness. He never wanted to even set a trap for Dumbeldore. In all,he is actually one of my fav characters.Btw,nice debate club top,I give you an A for this club.Report Cards come next month ;)

Ok, Harry Potter debate question: was Draco a good guy or a bad guy in the HP universe? Your thoughts?
